In February 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (also known as the Recovery Act) was signed into law with the intention of creating new jobs, encouraging economic activity, and holding the government responsible for its spending. Departments and agencies who request or receive public funds through the Recovery Act are responsible for using the funds in a responsible, transparent manner while optimizing the funds for long-term benefit and economic growth.
